Tuesday, August 12th 2008

Critical backup power systems inventor and manufacturer Active Power, Inc. announced it was named a finalist for the Eighth Annual Greater Austin Business Awards hosted by the Austin Chamber of Commerce. Active Power is one of three finalists in the program’s Innovation category for large companies defined as having 151 or more employees. The company was recognized for its energy efficient, reliable and green flywheel based UPS (uninterruptible power supply) systems and how the technology continues to help its customers reduce their impact on the environment.

“These finalists represent local companies who have set the bar high and consistently put in place meaningful change to enhance Austin and the surrounding community,” said Joe Holt, 2008 Chair Austin Chamber of Commerce and Chairman, JPMorgan Chase Austin. “Coming up with an innovative way to effectively address customer power needs isn’t easy, but Active Power has achieved this in an innovative and progressive way that clients and customers can depend on.”

Category finalists were chosen by a selection committee based on an organization’s demonstration of innovation including the integration of innovation into the daily work environment; innovation through the implementation of new technology; and adversities the company has experienced within the last year and how these obstacles were overcome. Winners will be announced during an awards ceremony on Wednesday, Aug. 27, at the Hilton Austin.

“We are honored to be selected as a finalist for the Greater Austin Business Awards,” said Jim Clishem, president and CEO at Active Power. “As more and more companies consider deploying innovative green technologies, some are hesitant as they believe going green comes with a premium. This isn’t the case with Active Power. Because of its high energy efficiency, our product offering lowers energy costs which directly impact the customer’s bottom line. As a result, this lowers total cost of ownership over the life of the system all while reducing CO2 emissions.”
