Canasia Power Corp. is pleased to announce that it has initiated the land acquisition process for its clean coal, 1320MW (2×660MW), ‘Jawaharpur’ Supercritical Thermal Power Plant, sited at Etah, State of Uttar Pradesh, India. The power plant site is approximately 600 Hectares which will house the power plant, sub-station, ash storage area, green-belt, and the residential development for over 2000 people who will be the operating staff and their families.
The 1320MW power plant has been put on the Government of India, Ministry of Power, list of projects that are expected to be commissioned in the ‘Twelfth Five-Year Plan’, from 2012 to 2017. The Company is targeting financial closure and start of construction next year, resulting in the ‘Jawaharpur’ power plant being commissioned in 2012-2013.
The power plant will generate and supply critically needed electricity to the State of Uttar Pradesh (population over 150 million), the capital city of New Delhi, and the important city of Agra, home of the iconic Taj Mahal. In being able to supply stable, clean power to the city of Agra, the power plant will be instrumental in significantly improving the air quality in the city, thus helping preserve the Taj.
