EDF Energies Nouvelles is continuing its strategy of purchasing photovoltaic panels by signing an order for a further 75 MWp in capacity from First Solar due for delivery in 2009 and 2010.
This deal between EDF Energies Nouvelles and US company First Solar, which manufactures thin-film technology photovoltaic modules, comes on top of the contracts already signed in July 2007 and early 2008 for 292 MWp in capacity due for delivery between year-end 2007 and December 2012. This new order, 25 MWp of which will be delivered in 2009 and a further 50 MWp in 2010, increases the total volume of panels ordered from First Solar to 367 MWp.
This order reflects the Group’s strategy of accelerating its development in the solar photovoltaic segment. EDF Energies Nouvelles, which successfully raised €500 million during September 2008 to finance this expansion, has set itself a target of commissioning 500 MWp in photovoltaic capacity for its own account by 2012.
