URS Corporation announced that it has been awarded a contract by ENMAX Green Power Inc. to provide engineering, procurement, construction, startup, testing and commissioning services for a new 120-megawatt simple-cycle power generation facility in Alberta, Canada. The natural gas-fired facility is located about 40 kilometers north of Calgary near the town of Crossfield, and it will supply peak demand electrical power to the Alberta transmission system. The contract has a maximum value of approximately $54 million to URS.
“We are pleased to be a part of this significant project, which underscores the full range of services that URS can provide in the power sector,” said Tom Zarges, President of URS’ Washington Division. “As a quick-start peaking facility, the Crossfield plant will provide essential electricity during times of high power demand. Customers throughout the region will benefit from the addition of this much needed new generation capacity to Alberta’s electrical system.”
