Exelon is playing a leadership role at today’s Wharton Energy Conference, which brings together more than 200 energy industry thought leaders and business school students for a meaningful discussion about the future of energy.

“Exelon has been a proud sponsor of this event for three years in a row,” said Delia Stroud, vice president of public policy, Exelon Generation, in her introduction of keynote speaker and Economist correspondent Vijay Vaitheeswaran. “Not only does this conference help connect students with an interest in the energy industry with potential employers such as Exelon, but it also enables spirited discussions on the latest energy innovations and our nation’s critical energy policies.”

Exelon is a platinum sponsor of the daylong conference, an annual event sponsored by the Wharton Energy Club, an independent, student-run organization at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Also speaking at the event is Jack Crowley, vice president of market development for Exelon Generation. Crowley is part of the “Opportunities in the Global Power Industry” panel, which focuses on how companies are trying to turn challenges within the current power markets into business opportunities.

“One of the most important challenges facing utilities today is sustaining well-functioning competitive electricity markets, such as currently operate here in PJM,” said Crowley. “Exelon believes competition is critical to enlisting the innovative energy of the marketplace to find low-carbon solutions.”

Exelon’s comprehensive plan for addressing climate change, Exelon 2020: A Low Carbon Roadmap, will reduce, offset or displace more than 15 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions by 2020. This is more than the company’s current annual carbon footprint and the equivalent to taking nearly 3 million cars off the roads.
