Greenline Industries, provider of clean-tech energy platforms, and Lummus Corp., premier supplier of cotton ginning equipment under the Lummus brand and seed cleaning and crushing equipment under the Carver brand, have formed a relationship to provide comprehensive solutions for customers.

“Cottonseed oil is becoming a major feedstock for biodiesel around the world,” said Michael Brown, CEO of Greenline Industries. “Teaming up with the leading provider of cottonseed crushing and processing equipment provides our customers with in-depth knowledge and industry leading solutions.”

Savannah, Ga. based Lummus Corp. has equipment installed at customer sites worldwide ranging from cotton farming cooperatives to oil mills. One of the by-products of cotton production that has potential in the renewable fuels market is the oil seed. The advent and increasing popularity of biodiesel provides Lummus’ customers with a growing market for cottonseed oil. With higher costs for edible oil, such as soybean and palm, other oil seeds like cottonseed are becoming more popular as a biodiesel feedstock. Cotton is locally grown around the world in places like the southern U.S., China, India, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Brazil, Australia, Egypt, Africa, Argentina, Turkey, and Greece. Using the Carver brand of Lummus equipment to delint the seed and remove the meat from the seed, customers can extract the oil and either sell it to local biodiesel producers or invest in Greenline’s waterless biodiesel production platform and develop another source of revenue in biodiesel.

“We are excited about promoting the biodiesel market for our customers as an alternative to the existing uses of cotton seed,” said Steve Marbut, President and CEO of Lummus Corp. “Cottonseed oil makes high quality biodiesel and with Greenline’s environmentally friendly production equipment, the finished product always meets the rigid fuel specifications in the U.S. and Europe.”

The partnership involves working with cotton farmers and ginners, cottonseed oil millers, and biodiesel producers to find mutually beneficial solutions and collaborations. Lummus and Greenline will work towards providing in-depth knowledge about cottonseed oil refining and the biodiesel process to joint customers.

“It’s a winning partnership for Greenline, Lummus, and our customers,” said Brown.
