GreenMan Technologies, Inc. Subsidiary Awarded Largest Project in Missouri to Date

Monday, August 25th 2008

GreenMan Technologies, Inc., a leading regional tire recycler of over 12 million scrap tires per year and emerging leader in patented cold-cure recycled rubber molded products, today announced its wholly owned recycled products subsidiary, Welch Products, has been awarded a multiple site playground project in Platte County, Missouri. The agreement was entered into by Welch’s playground division, National Safe Surfacing Initiative (NSSI).

The project is comprised of the installation of a total of four playgrounds at two public elementary schools in the Platte County R-3 school district. The project also includes a cooperative effort between Platte County School District and the YMCA for installation of a new playground/fitness system and DuroMat “Extended Life”® safety tile surfacing at the YMCA Challenger Park which will be a major sports and recreation complex servicing Kansas City. The installation will be overseen by the Missouri Playground Compliance Group, a safety partnership formed between NSSI, through its branded “National Playground Compliance Group” (NPCG), and the Missouri School Board Association (MSBA).

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources Waste Tire Grant Program is partially funding the project, which meets the grant requirements through the use of value added products derived from recycled Missouri scrap tires. For example, the playgrounds will include the combined installation of 18,000 square feet of DuroMat “Extended Life”® safety tile surfacing made from Missouri waste tires. NSSI will provide full turnkey installation, and certify the compliance of two NPCG playground and fitness systems. All of the identified sites will comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (“ADA”) accessibility mandates.

Lyle Jensen, GreenMan’s President and Chief Executive Officer, stated, “This project is an excellent example of multiple public agencies working together to supply children with playgrounds that employ the best aspects of recycling, green technology, safety and accessibility. We thank our partners in this endeavor and look forward to using this project as a model for further projects in Missouri and around the country.”

GreenMan Technologies pursues technological processes and unique marketing programs to transform recycled materials into renewable fuel, alternative energy, recycled feedstock, and innovative recycled products. Over twelve million tires are collected and recycled annually into tire-derived fuel, tire-derived aggregate, and crumb rubber feedstock for playground, athletic track and field, and road surfacing. Through GreenMan’s subsidiary, Welch Products, the company develops and markets branded products and services that provide schools and other political subdivisions viable solutions for safety, compliance, and accessibility.
