KONE provides energy-efficient elevator systems for historic project in San Francisco

KONE Inc., an industry leading provider of People Flow(TM) solutions, announced that it has been awarded a project and will begin work in June of 2009 at the historic, art-deco Market Square building, located at 1355 Market Street at the heart of San Francisco’s Civic Center area. KONE has been engaged to supply and install seven new KONE EcoSystem MR(TM) elevators and four gearless modernizations using KONE Polaris(TM) Pro Destination Control system (DCS).

This showcase project is very important to demonstrate and confirm KONE as the leader in this technology for both new equipment and modernization.”

Built in 1937, Market Square, formerly known as San Francisco Mart, is being redeveloped by ADCO. This urban campus contains over 890,000 square feet of Class A office space which is located above a retail base of 200,000 square feet attractive to office tenants that can take advantage of large efficient floor plates. Two buildings, Market Square and Market Square South, joined by a common garden, comprise this exciting multi-use development. ADCO is planning to welcome a wide range of retail tenants and will offer many amenities, such as a grocery store, coffee shop, fitness center and restaurant to serve the rapidly growing population in the neighborhood.

The KONE EcoSystem MR elevators, powered by the KONE EcoDisc® hoisting machine, not only provide superior performance but also provide significant energy savings. This eco-efficient elevator system consumes 50% less energy than compared to a traditional traction elevator. The state-of-the-art destination control system, KONE Polaris Pro, reduced the number of new elevators by one, resulting not only in energy savings but also in creating a more efficient building core and layout.

In addition to the installation, KONE was awarded a five year service contract. This service agreement enables KONE to provide Eco-efficient service and ensure smooth people flow from one place to another within the Market Square facility.
