Merrick Engineering, Inc, one of the largest manufacturers of a wide variety of hangers and closet accessories in the United States, has achieved outstanding energy efficiency and greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions, qualifying them to participate in the Cool Planet Project. Launched by Southern California Edison and The Climate Registry, Cool Planet is the first program of its kind to reward the installation of large energy-saving projects and promote action on climate change.
Merrick installed energy efficiency projects that saved approximately 3.2 million kWh, or 966 tons of greenhouse gases — equivalent to annually removing 242 cars from the road.
“We continually work to achieve an environmentally sound workplace. These energy efficiency projects reduce our GHG footprint and taking the extra step to report our greenhouse gas emissions is a critical measure in setting a positive example within our industry,” said Abraham Abdi, President, Merrick Engineering, Inc.
Customers of Southern California Edison who achieve energy efficiency savings of at least one million kWh through the installation of energy efficiency projects qualify for the Cool Planet Project. Participants of the program receive a complementary first year’s membership to The Climate Registry, which provides the tools to calculate, verify and publicly report the greenhouse gas footprint of their organizations.
“Southern California Edison is proud to be the first utility to sponsor the Cool Planet Project. The program’s goals dovetail with Edison’s industry-leading environmental initiatives, and we applaud Merrick’s work in greening its operations,” said Gene Rodrigues, director of Energy Efficiency, Southern California Edison.
MERRICK ENGINEERING INC is one of the largest manufacturers of hangers, closet accessories and organizers. Merrick manufactures all of their plastic injection molded products in factories across the U.S. Main customers are from the discount, home-center, variety, drug, grocery, warehouse and specialty order markets.
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA EDISON is the largest electric utility in California, serving a population of more than 13 million via 4.8 million customer accounts in a 50,000-square-mile service area within Central, Coastal and Southern California.
THE CLIMATE REGISTRY sets consistent and transparent standards for the measurement, verification, and public reporting of greenhouse gas emissions throughout North America in a single unified registry.
