Meridium Inc., the global leader in asset performance management software and consulting solutions, today announced that Manitoba Hydro has licensed Meridium’s root cause analysis software, PROACT® for Meridium, in its HVDC Division (High Voltage Direct Current), which states they have already experienced benefits from PROACT and the methodology. Manitoba Hydro is one of the largest energy utilities in Canada, serving thousands of electric and natural gas customers in various communities throughout Manitoba.
According to David Zhang, Supervisor of Asset Maintenance Management Systems for Manitoba Hydro, “In keeping with our number one corporate goal of improving safety in the work environment, it is critical for Manitoba Hydro to not only discover the root cause of the failures that we experience, but also to implement technology like PROACT® for Meridium that can track those analyses to make sure that we take corrective steps. PROACT® for Meridium will ensure that we maintain a comprehensive history of those analyses so that all our findings can potentially be applied to other RCAs.”
By using PROACT® for Meridium, Manitoba Hydro can identify existing defects in a proactive manner and can begin to eliminate defects in a structured and systematic way. Lowering lost profit opportunities and equipment maintenance costs has a direct effect their corporate goal of striving to be the lowest cost provider of domestic electricity rates in Canada.
Another key element of the Manitoba Hydro commitment to equipment reliability is the education of its employees, not only to support the software implementation but also as an overall approach to a successful, comprehensive asset performance management initiative. Meridium worked with Manitoba Hydro to create a custom training plan that ensured its employees were fully prepared by the time implementation was complete. According to Zhang, “One of Manitoba Hydro’s corporate strategies is to implement programs for employees to further develop their understanding of the energy business. We see Meridium as a key partner for helping our employees appreciate the impact that reliable equipment has on the environment, on the health and safety of our employees, on our bottom line. Meridium provided us with the best software training my group has ever received. The material was great and the class was engaging and informative from start to finish.”
According to Bonz Hart, Meridium CEO, “We’re pleased that, as a major player in the Canadian power industry, Manitoba Hydro has chosen to implement a Meridium solution to analyze their incidents and facilitate corrective actions. We see their implementation of PROACT® for Meridium as a critical step on their path to a comprehensive asset performance management initiative, with the ultimate goal of improving the overall performance of their production and generation assets.”
