Providence Housing Authority Receives Department of Homeland Security Funding for the Purchase and Installation of Pioneering’s Safe-T-element(R) Cooking Technology

Tuesday, September 2nd 2008

Pioneering Technology Inc. of Mississauga, Ontario was advised today by Rhode Island’s Providence Housing Authority (PHA) that they have been awarded a grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Fire Prevention and Safety (FP&S) grant program for the purchase and installation of Pioneering Technology’s Safe-T-element cooking technology.

The Fire Prevention and Safety Grants (FP&S) are part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) and are under the purview of the Grant Programs Directorate in the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). FP&S grants support projects that enhance the safety of the public and firefighters from fire and related hazards. The primary goal is to target high-risk populations and mitigate high incidences of death and injury. The grants under FP&S are awarded on a competitive basis and are administered by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA).

As part of the program award recipients must provide pre and post results to clearly demonstrate the success and sustainability of the program for which they were awarded funds. In this instance, as was the case for last year’s recipients the overall scope is to help prevent stove top cooking fires.
