Sputtering Materials, Inc., (SMI) a leading innovator of CIG thin film PVD target material development and joining technologies, today announced it is now offering a CIG target alloy and pre-selenization thin film development service. SMI has designed and assembled a development PVD chamber that includes a Cr target, a Mo target, and a 2″ dia CIG target for the purpose of testing CIG target deposition and thin film characteristics. This service includes the production of a high density (99%+) 2″ dia x .250″ thick CIG planar target and thin film service. The developmental PVD Chamber is used to make thin films of Cr-Mo-CIG on glass or flexible substrates. SMI can produce a range of CIG alloys as well as in-house development of pre-selenized CIG film deposition.
SMI’s research and development experience with CIG and CIG doped target materials has paved the way to offer high performance planar CIG targets and developmental CIG deposition services. Casted targets offer high density material that enable technicians greater control with better material utilization. “We can now work with our customers to cast CIG targets in various alloys and test them in the chamber for them, with all the film results sent directly to our customer,” said Greg Howard, Vice President of Sputtering Materials, Inc. Howard continues, “We know how our material works; by enabling customers with developmental CIG films, they can focus on the challenge of how best to selenize the film and optimize their transparent conductive oxide layers.” CIG alloy target development is done on a project basis. SMI can fast-track the development of pre-selenized CIG coatings.
SMI has over 3 years of research and development experience in creating a process for casting CIG and CIG doped targets for research and production. SMI is also working on similarly difficult alloys to cast.
