B&W Subsidiary Awarded Boiler Refurbishment Contract at Indonesia Power Plant

McDermott International, Inc. announced that a subsidiary of The Babcock & Wilcox Company, has been awarded a contract to refurbish two B&W Radiant Tower-type boilers at the Suralaya Steam Power Plant on Java Island, Indonesia. B&W will redesign and supply superheater and reheater surface, low NOx combustion systems, pulverizer performance enhancements, and other boiler upgrade equipment. Biofuel Plantations on Tropical Forestlands Are Bad for the Climate and Biodiversity, Study Finds

Keeping tropical rain forests intact is a better way to combat climate change than replacing them with biofuel plantations, a study in the journal Conservation Biology finds. The study reveals that it would take at least 75 years for the carbon emissions saved through the use of biofuels to compensate for the carbon lost through forest conversion. The 13 members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) pumped an average 32.26 million barrels per day (b/d) of crude oil in October, according to a Platts survey of OPEC and oil industry officials just released.
