TRC Companies, Inc., a recognized leader in engineering, consulting and construction management that provides integrated services to the environmental, energy, infrastructure, and real estate markets, today announced that it has been awarded a $3 million contract to serve as the engineering consultant on the Keene Road Substation Project for the Bangor Hydro-Electric Company (Bangor Hydro).
“Bangor Hydro is Maine’s second largest utility serving eastern and east coastal Maine,” said Glenn Harkness, TRC’s Senior Vice-President. “TRC will perform all of the detailed engineering design and specifications associated with the substation construction. The 345kV substation will accommodate a control house, breakers, all the necessary electrical equipment and supports. Work has recently begun on the project and the substation is expected to go on-line by the Fall of 2009.”
The Keene Road Substation Project is part of a system-wide upgrade, during which the utility will construct a new 345kV substation along their existing transmission corridor in Chester, Maine. The new air-insulated substation and associated transmission line rerouting will create an important new service interconnect, which will result in enhanced system-wide reliability and a stronger feed to Bangor Hydro’s Northern Division.
