It took more than Hurricane Ike to “shut in” World Energy. The energy industry’s widely read and respected publisher continued operations during the storm and immediately afterward. First on the agenda was completing production of its World Energy Monthly Review – with a cover story criticizing U.S. media hype over hurricanes.
Though its Houston headquarters endured a 10-day power outage, the facility survived largely intact. “I’m pleased to announce the re-opening of our offices with minimal damage,” said World Energy CEO Richard Loomis on September 23.
“I am very proud of how our staff was able to operate from other locations and conduct business as usual,” Loomis said. “With World Energy Monthly Review’s October issue already on press, we are concentrating on moving forward with the next issue of World Energy Magazine. And World Energy Television continues with new projects.”
Loomis said that even during hurricane season, World Energy is committed to keeping its readers and viewers a step ahead of ever-changing energy industry. “With the price of oil fluctuating, the price of natural gas dropping, the advent of the smart grid and Congress trying to pass a renewable energy standard, keeping up with the energy industry is critical to our economic future,” Loomis said.
Duane C. Radtke, former president and CEO of Dominion Offshore, echoed this view: “As I look back at the past 30 years of our industry, I have always thought each decade was the most interesting and challenging,” Radtke said. “I now believe that the next 10 years will be the most critical and exciting times for all in our industry. World Energy will have an important role as a forum for strategic issues, technology changes, and petro-technical shortages. The shared insight of its authors will help to provide solutions to our industry’s ever-changing challenges.”
