ZBB Energy Corporation (ZBB), a Milwaukee-based company that specializes in clean energy storage systems, has announced that it will co-share with Eaton Corporation (Eaton) a $229,000 grant from the State of Wisconsin to develop a power conversion and energy storage system that manages energy from renewable energy sources.
The grant is part of $7.3 million in Clean Energy Funding announced by Gov. Jim Doyle. Doyle said the fund is for companies “that are committed to expanding Wisconsin’s clean energy industry.”
The grant will assist ZBB and Eaton in developing a rechargeable energy storage system that will be compatible with both grid and solar power. Under the grant ZBB will supply three ZESS 50 energy storage modules, totaling 150 kWh of storage capacity. Eaton will develop a unique hybrid power conditioning system to match with the three ZESS units.
“This will allow the energy system to extend the availability of solar energy into the nighttime hours,” said Steve Seeker, Chief Operating Officer of ZBB Energy Corporation. “We will develop it, model and test it, then the integrated product will be deployed into a commercial or industrial site.”
The ZESS 50 energy storage system is manufactured at ZBB’s plant in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin.
“We are very pleased to be sharing this grant with Eaton Corporation, but we are also proud to be recognized by the governor as part of the State of Wisconsin’s growing renewable energy industry,” said Rob Parry, Chief Executive Officer of ZBB Energy Corporation. “Renewable energy requires energy storage, and ZBB represents the future of clean, green energy storage.”
